Opti aims to use its technology to enable cities to be more proactive when it comes to preventing an overflow from a CSS. According to NOAA, a watershed is an area that directs rainwater and snowmelt to drainage points, such as the ocean and lakes. As the water flows, it picks up pollutants which are carried back into the water supply, this is, if a watershed contains "impervious surfaces", such as roads, the polluted water can run directly into storm drains, causing them to overflow. There are thousands ofdelinted watersheds within the US, and their boundaries are determined by the local and state government for urban planning purposes. One of Opti's main mission goals is to prevent polluted stormwater from draining back into the public's water supply.
