This page formerly repeated an earlier Barclaycard archive article. The old overview remains at that URL. This companion page explains how to assess dated company research.
Separate three kinds of statement
Mark each statement as a reported fact, a company's stated intention or the writer's interpretation. A stated intention does not prove that a project was delivered; an interpretation should show the reasoning behind it.
Keep the time frame visible
Check when the source was published and what period its figures describe. A priority reported in 2019 should not be presented as the company's current position without newer evidence.
Check the scope of a number
Identify whether a figure concerns a product, a business unit or the whole organisation. Compare like periods and units. If those details are unavailable, state the uncertainty rather than filling it with an estimate.
Use the source for the next question
A useful research note should point readers to the source and explain what remains unanswered. Keep commercial terms, leadership roles and financial details separate from historical commentary until they have been checked against current official information.
